Acne is a skin disease that mainly appears in adolescence and often continues into adulthood. Acne affects a large percentage of the population at some point in their lives, but there is no way to calculate how long it will take for it to completely disappear. It is mainly due to the body's reaction to large amounts of hormones (testosterone) androgens, bacteria and common allergies to various foods.<\/p>\n

The most common form of acne is Acne Vulgaris which means \"common acne\" and most people suffer from this type of acne. The face and upper neck are most often affected, but the back, chest and shoulders are also affected. Despite the permanent marks, acne affects the psyche more and results in low self-esteem and according to one study causes depression. Acne tends to appear in adolescence, when people are already quite insecure. Therefore, quick and intense treatment is recommended to reduce the negative effects on the individual. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

  1. Topical Acne Treatment
    <\/strong><\/u>It is administered for the management of mild-to-common adolescent acne, pregnancy acne, and as an adjunct to systemic therapy. Topical treatment formulations are mostly antimicrobial or keratolytic, with the most commonly used being Benzoyl Peroxide, Retinoic Acid, Resorcinol in combination with Salicylic Acid and Sulfur, and Azelaic Acid. Furthermore, in certain cases, treatment can be applied through the topical use of an adequate dose of Ultraviolet B (UVB) rays. <\/li>\n
  2. Systemic Acne Treatment
    <\/strong><\/u>In cases where acne does not subside with topical therapy, it can be managed with systemic administration of antibiotics, hormonal therapy, and systemic use of retinoids. Antibiotics form the cornerstone of eliminating acne symptoms. They must be taken for a period of at least 3 months and keep acne pimples under control until they begin to recede. Hormonal therapy primarily includes treatment with estrogens or a combination of estrogens with antiandrogens. This method is ideal for adult women who are already using contraceptive pills. The results of retinoid treatment are not immediate, and all patients develop skin dryness. Nosebleeds may be observed in patients with a relative predisposition, as well as temporary hyperlipidemia, which is why a liver test is recommended before starting treatment. One full cycle of retinoid treatment is usually sufficient. Finally, during the course of retinoid therapy, as well as for 3 months after its completion, contraception must be ensured to prevent teratogenesis (birth defects). <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
