Warts are usually asymptomatic and rarely may cause itching or a burning sensation. The areas where they appear are the penis, the scrotum, the groin area, and the perianal region for men, while for women, they appear on the vagina, the vulva, the cervix, and the groin and perianal region. More rarely, they manifest on the lips, the larynx, the hands, and the mouth. The appearance of genital warts occurs on either the internal or external genitalia. The virus enters the skin and mucous membranes through micro-abrasions in the genital area, which are created during sexual intercourse. In appearance, genital warts resemble skin tags (or moles) and their color is white or the same as the skin. Their diagnosis is clinical and must be made by an experienced Dermatologist, who will also recommend the appropriate treatment.
