Tinea versicolor is a common viral skin disease. It affects people of all ages, but it mainly affects children between the ages of one and 10, sexually active adults, and those with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms
Tinea versicolor appears as small pimples, 1-10 millimeters in size, that look like lumps, olives, or pearls. Many parents confuse tinea versicolor with ringworm or staph. Tinea versicolor lesions in adults appear as pimples:
- around the genitals
- inner thighs
- in the anal area
- the belly
The virus is not only transmitted through sexual contact but also through shared objects such as clothes, towels, sheets, etc. It can also be transmitted through dirty water and the sand we lie on in the summer. It occurs more often in children who play sports in swimming pools and gyms, as well as in children who suffer from dry skin.
Treatment
In many cases, treatment is not necessary, as the disease resolves on its own and does not leave scars (the body develops antibodies to the virus).
If the spots start to become irritated or sore, the doctor may recommend mild cortisone creams. However, sometimes the disease can last for years, especially in children with a tendency to eczema or those who are immunocompromised.
Surgical treatment consists of removing and crushing the lesions with surgical forceps (cure) and then applying tincture of iodine, but this is a painful procedure and in children is usually done under local or general anesthesia.
Liquid nitrogen cryotherapy is effective but causes pain when applied and its excessive use can cause complications.

«Η κριτική γίνεται στους 8.5 μήνες μετά την επέμβαση και 10 μέρες πριν το ραντεβού για την τελική αξιολόγηση από τον γιατρό. Μιλάμε για έναν εξαιρετικό γιατρό, που θα σε καθοδηγήσει και καθησυχάσει σε κάθε βήμα της μεταμόσχευσης μαλλιών. Θα σου λύσει κάθε απορία όσο "χαζή" και να είναι. Θα σου πει ακριβώς πως θα νιώθεις κάθε μέρα μετά την επέμβαση και πως θα αντιμετωπίσεις την όποια φαγούρα ή ενόχληση νιώσεις. Πέρα από εξαιρετικός γιατρός, είναι και φοβερός άνθρωπος. Μέχρι και κιμαδοπιτάκι που είχε φτιάξει η κόρη του προσφέρθηκε να μου δώσει το πρωί της επέμβασης! Επειδή όταν πήγα να πάρω την πρώτη αγωγή για την επέμβαση, με ρώτησε αν είχα φάει πρωινό του είχα πει όχι, γιατί ήμουν αγχωμένος.
